A Letter To Santa

Reviewed by Tom Pinard

Take a talented "troupe" of youngsters, all from a dance studio, the Burbank Dance Biz, blend in the writing talents of Roberta Smith, add the direction of Helen O'Brien, and top it all off with two talented young ladies, Hayley O'Brien and Caitlin Cottrell, and with all that, a thoroughly entertaining hour long escape back into a simpler time was had by a full house at the Colony Theatre in Burbank.

Victor Valley Vettes' own Roberta Smith, at the urging of her sister, penned the one act play that celebrated the Joy of Christmas. The lively patter of the young actors was a tribute to Roberta's gift of words. Coupled with numerous dance routines, the troupe acted out an "aging" youth and her apparent transition from child to adolescence... and away from a belief in Santa Claus.

Enter "Cameo," all the way from the North Pole, determined to make this young lady see the error of her ways and re-affirm her belief in Santa.... and Christmas. With toys coming alive and acting and dancing..... our "Krista" gets the message.

It was a fun evening, and it gave a grand-dad or two, along with grand-ma's, a chance to see kids having fun in a Christmas play. Along with the 'reviewer,' there were seven more VVV'rs, and the play's author, and of course, Chuck Smith, reprising his role at the VVV Christmas Party as Santa Claus.

Play was performed at the Colony Theatre in Burbank, CA on December 3rd and 4th, 2007.
